The present volume consists of a collection of articles which appeared in the Assyrian journals Kawkab Madeŋho (Eastern Star) and Intibah (Awakening) in Arabic over a century ago. The majority of the contributions in this collection were written by Naṣif Ḥanna Qērme. Other individual contributions are by Yusēf Hanna Qērme, Naṣif Ḥanna’s brother, Shamsho Salim Jērjis, Cabdēlkarim Warde, Dayroyo (monk) Ḥanna, and Timotewos Matta Khuri. Some of the contributions include short responses from the editors of the aforementioned journals, Naum Faiq and Jabbur Boyaji respectively. The articles are also supplemented by the editor with a series of documents from the Ottoman archives, which round off and substantiate some of the aspects reported in the articles with focus on the problems related to the conversion of Bishop Petrus to the Greek Orthodox denomination.
